Abstract

The presence of antimicrobial residues in poultry products is a significant issue regarding food safety and public health. The objective was to determine enrofloxacin residue concentrations in broiler chicken meat sold in three markets in Puerto Maldonado. Forty-five breast muscle samples from the José Aldamiz, Tres de Mayo, and Mercado Modelo markets were analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Mean enrofloxacin concentrations were 0.89 ± 0.0067 µg/kg at José Aldamiz, 0.91 ± 0.0046 µg/kg at Tres de Mayo, and 0.92 ± 0.0044 µg/kg at Mercado Modelo. Analysis of variance showed significant differences between the markets (p = 0.0044), and multiple comparison analysis revealed a significant difference only between José Aldamiz and Mercado Modelo. The overall mean concentration was 0.9109 ± 0.0088 µg/kg. It is concluded that enrofloxacin residues were detected in the samples evaluated, albeit at low concentrations. The individual values determined were well below the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of 100 µg/kg established by NTS No. 120-MINSA/DIGESA-V.01 for the marker residue defined as the sum of enrofloxacin and ciprofloxacin in poultry muscle.
