Abstract

Nutritional conditioning and hormonal induction are crucial for the reproduction of Amazonian fish. The objective was to evaluate the effects of two doses of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and two levels of fish protein hydrolysate (FPH) on the fertilization and hatching rates of *Piaractus brachypomus* (paco). Twenty-four broodstock fish were used, distributed across eight 125 m² ponds over a four-month period. A completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement and two replicates was employed. The factors evaluated were hCG doses of 500 and 1000 IU/kg of body weight combined with dietary FPH levels of 0.5% and 1.5%, resulting in four treatments. No significant differences were found among treatments regarding fertilization or hatching rates (p > 0.05). However, the combination of 500 IU/kg hCG and 1.5% FPH yielded the highest numerical fertilization rate, whereas the combination of 1000 IU/kg hCG and 0.5% FPH produced the highest hatching rate. It is concluded that the evaluated combinations resulted in numerical variations in reproductive response, although there was no statistical evidence of a differential effect.
