The microbiological quality of air is relevant in boar semen processing, where microorganisms may compromise the hygienic conditions of the process. The objective was to determine the effect of ozone on airborne bacterial load in boar semen processing environments. The laboratory and semen collection room, both in the absence and presence of the boar, were evaluated by impact air sampling of 1 m³ before and after a 10-min ozonation cycle, with enumeration of total aerobic mesophiles, total coliforms, and Escherichia coli. Aerobic mesophiles decreased from 210 to 74, from 1120 to 162, and from 1736 to 202 CFU/m³, corresponding to reductions of 64.8, 85.5, and 88.4%, respectively, with an average reduction of 79.6%, while Escherichia coli and total coliforms were not detected. Ozonation showed potential as a complementary measure for environmental microbiological control within hygiene and biosecurity practices.
