Abstract

Madre de Dios is recognized as the “Biodiversity Capital” and is considered one of the most biodiverse areas on Earth (Del Aguila Feijoo & Walker, 2018; Swenson et al., 2011). However, multiple factors, mainly anthropic, generate the accelerated loss of forests (Garate-Quispe et al., 2021). Being gold mining, illegal logging and agriculture the main sources of deforestation in Madre de Dios (Alarcon Aguirre et al., 2021). Of these, gold mining is considered the main source of forest loss (Kalamandeen et al., 2020) and the one that generates the greatest negative impacts on ecosystems (Gerson et al., 2022).
