Antibacterial Activity of the Bark Extract of Spondias mombin L. (ubos) against Staphylococcus epidermidis

The present study evaluated the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of the bark of Spondias mombin L. (Ubos) against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 14990, the preparation of the extract was carried out by the maceration method with 70% ethanol; the identification of its secondary metabolites was determined through staining and precipitation tests and the evaluation of the antibacterial activity, by the diffusion method in agar with disks. The results indicated that the extract contains phenolic compounds and flavonoids; at concentrations of 5%, 15%, 30% and 10ug gentamicin applied to the bacteria, it formed halos of 12.06mm, 13.56mm, 17.79mm and 21. 5mm, respectively, such results lead us to conclude that the ethanolic extract of the bark of Spondias mombin L. (Ubos) presents antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 14990, and this capacity is due to the presence of the secondary metabolites found.
