About the Journal

Focus and purpose

The GENTRYANA Journal is a scientific-technical journal, which serves as a means of communication between professionals dedicated to basic and applied research in Biological Sciences, is published and sponsored by the “Alwyn Gentry” herbarium (HAG) of the Universidad Nacional Amazónica de Madre de Dios, Perú. It presents two issues per year (January-June and July-December) in an online version.

GENTRYANA receives original and unpublished papers on topics of Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Taxonomy and Systematics, Ecological Restoration, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Agroecology, Ethnobiology and Conservation, among others , these can be presented in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

Its mission is the dissemination of pertinent and rigorous scientific production that contributes to solving the problems of world society in the aforementioned thematic areas. The target audience is researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate thesis students from the university community of the National Amazon University of Madre de Dios, as well as national and foreign professionals interested in obtaining in-depth knowledge of the journal.

Payments per publication (APC)

GENTRYANA journal has no charges for article processing, nor in any part of the editorial or publication process.

Peer review process

Contributions must favorably accredit the academic opinion process, which will operate under the peer review modality, double blind, where the identity of both the authors and the reviewers will remain anonymous:

  1. The articles that accredit the editorial opinion will be sent to expert academics in the same disciplinary and thematic area as those of the postulated text. The reviewers will be selected from the portfolio of referees –made up of specialists from national and international institutions–, who will comment on the relevance and quality of the proposed text and determine the feasibility of its publication.
  2. The reviewers will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing that the texts are an original contribution, that the theoretical references are relevant and the appropriate methodology, and assess the relevance of the findings described.
  3. All texts will be sent to two experts –attached to a different institution from that of the authors–, who will issue their comments. Ultimately, based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor's decision will be:

  4. The editorial committee will guarantee, in all cases, that the opinions delivered to the authors contain solid arguments that support the editorial decision.
  5. The results of the academic opinion process will be final in all cases.
  6. The time for the document to be submitted for review will depend on the number of articles on the waiting list. Once the author has been notified of the receipt of the article, the estimated time for the opinion is two months.
  7. In case of receiving comments, the author will have a period of two weeks to send the new version of the work to the editor.
  8. Once the article is received, the referees will have a period of one month to carry out the review and deliver the result.
  9. Accepted documents will start the editing process (style correction, layout, metadata marking, etc.) to be published later, according to the decision of the editorial direction.
  10. Once the editorial process is complete, the preliminary version of the text will be sent to the authors for final review and approval. These will have a period of three calendar days for the delivery of the Vo.Bo., if no comments are delivered within that period, the editorial coordination of the journal will assume that the authors have given their tacit approval.
  11. Certificates of publication will only be issued to those authors who apply to the Editor of the journal.
