Relationship between documentary traceability and competitiveness in organic coffee export

Abstract

Organic coffee is vital for Peru’s rural economy; however, the lack of documentary traceability systems limits access to international markets. This study assessed the relationship between documentary traceability and organic coffee exports in organizations from Moyobamba, 2024. A quantitative, applied, non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, and cross-sectional design was used with a census sample of 120 participants from 24 organizations. Questionnaires measured traceability (identification, data capture, communication) and exports (finance, delivery time, quality). Analysis with descriptive statistics and Spearman’s correlation in SPSS v26 showed weak positive associations: finance (r=0.118; p=0.199), delivery time (r=0.137; p=0.136), and quality (r=0.073; p=0.428). The overall relationship was r=0.089 (p=0.333), without statistical significance. Although no strong associations were found, the study provides initial evidence to strengthen documentary management in coffee organizations and highlights the need for more robust traceability systems to enhance competitiveness and compliance with international standards linked to the Sustainable Development Goals
